Thank you for your interest in working with Adventure High. We appreciate your interest in us and, in turn, we will try our best to give you all the information and personal attention you need during the application process.
Adventure High offers a variety of adventure experiences designed to give our clients safe meaningful and enjoyable experiences. A central and unique part of our programs is the strong community that revolves around both staff and clients. Our learning endeavours require staff to be responsible for creating catalytic learning experiences for clients while at the same time being committed to both personal and professional growth.
THE TYPE OF PEOPLE WE HIRE
We are looking for mature individuals who have considerable experience, in dealing with small groups, and communicating with a broad variety of people. Above all, Adventure High staff are sincerely interested in the development of others on a personal, group, and larger societal level. We want our staff to have a balance blend of skills such as ability relate to clients and the ability to safety manage sea kayaking and/or cycling. Adventure High staff must be good leaders, have experience and possess positive attitudes towards safety and the natural environment.
MINIMUM STANDARDS WE ARE SEEKING FOR GUIDES
As a minimum, you will need to have personal multi-day tripping experience. If you are also a sea kayaker, mountain biker or have outdoor retail sales experience, that’s even better. You will need to have current certification in First Aid (standard or higher), C.P.R. and if possible lifesaving (bronze cross). It would be in your best interest to take a Advanced Wilderness First Aid Course (WEMT). The more skills you have in all relevant areas such as sea kayaking expedition experience, mountain biking, sailing, human development, the better your chances will be. The average age of staff who work with us is 32 years old. The minimum age for employment is 21 years old. We will make exceptions to this if the applicant is unusually qualified and/or mature.
The reason we use the age 21 as a minimum is to give people a chance to gain various life experiences before working with us. It enables the guide to better relate to the different needs of our clients. Often wisdom, judgment and maturity come with age and these are important traits we are seeking in staff.
